Abstract

The online form of education has recently become very popular worldwide. Academic leaders in many countries have identified this form as a key for long-term development of educational institutions. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), intended for the general public have become a phenomenon. MOOCs are offered by universities worldwide. The School of Management / City University of Seattle started as the first institution to offer online education in Slovakia more than nine years ago. In the months of July and August 2013 the School of Management / City University of Seattle offered free courses to the public, again as the first school in the country. The methodology of this form of education will be discussed, comparing our experience with foreign studies and – based on empirical research – effective methods of teaching online courses in an environment of open online courses for the public will be identified.
